LSU football: Tigers Coach Les Miles said winning streak vs. Mississippi State means nothing

Baton Rouge - Couple of SEC teams have dominated another in current history like LSU has Mississippi State. Tiger teams have beaten the Bulldogs in the last 11 meetings and 18 from the last 19.

But LSU Coach Miles stated that streak is of no consequence as his team prepares to experiment with the Bulldogs in Starkville Thursday night.

"I recognize we play a top quality opponent every year," Miles said for the SEC coaches conference call Wednesday. "One year doesn't lead to the next. It's a brand new challenge and brand new list of teenagers. It's a excellent coaching staff Coach Mullen has build. We don't make a lot out of it.

"Our guys can't keep in mind back 11 years. They don't understand what possibility that even is. They have a look at film, recognize how good quality the opponent is and prepare.

Mississippi State last defeated LSU in 1999. The Bulldogs scored a disputed touchdown on fourth down late within the game to consider a 17-16 victory. Prior to that was a 1991 victory, 28-19, in Tiger Stadium in Curley Hallman's first season at LSU. Hallman found themselves going 3-1 vs. State.
This coming year LSU is facing Mississippi State team which leads the SEC in rushing with 321 yards per game. The Bulldogs feature the SEC's leading rusher in Vick Ballard and 250-pound quarterback Chris Relf, third as a whole offense with 277 yards per game.

"They do a very good job using the run and pass, tremendous balance," Miles said. "The quarterback is a little a lot more aggressive towards the run compared to the Oregon style of attack. That piece produces a tremendous distinction in Mississippi State attack.'
